My family got together with some friends this past Monday, and we were informed by our host that it was "Blue Monday," the most depressing day of the year. I had never heard that before, but I could definitely relate! These cold, dark days with snow and ice have me longing for spring. Yet there is something that I love about hunkering down during winter. It's also a great time for comfort foods.
I think it's interesting to learn what people's comfort foods are. Culture and family history play such an important role in determining what is comforting to each individual person. For me, many of my favorites include pasta and cheese (e.g., homemade mac and cheese, lasagna). For my youngest daughter, I know it's beef stew.
I'd like to include some family-friendly comfort food recipes on this blog in the next few weeks and would love some suggestions. What are your favorite comfort foods? What recipes would you like to see?

Mine are pretty standard:
ReplyDelete*Homemade macaroni and cheese (baked w/breadcrumbs on top for a crunchy crust)
*Chicken pot pie/chicken and dumplings/noodles
*Spaghetti and meatballs
I have a list of those I grew up with and those I make now but here are my current ones:
ReplyDeleteRoasted Winter Vegetable Soup
Turkey Chili
Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
I make a variety of casseroles that are similar to chicken pot pie. We love them and we vary the sauce or the veggies in them each time.
ReplyDeleteThese all sound great. Thanks so much for sharing. I love soups and chilis to Jeannie. And I'm right there with you Sally with the mac and cheese and spaghetti and meatballs. Now chicken pot pie and dumplings are not dishes that I make as part of my usual routine. I know my husband would love that though. Gail or Sally, if you're willing to share, I'd love to post! Thanks.
